“AT THE END OF THE DAY…”
It is with deep sadness, yet, trust, that we have decided to cancel the 2016 Majesty of God Conference. Our speaker was to be Jerry Bridges, who went home to be with the Lord on March 6, 2016. Our conference theme was to be The Providence of God– an aspect of God’s sovereignty that was very dear to Jerry’s heart.
The truth of God’s providence tells us that all things come to the believer not by accident, but rather, from His Fatherly hand. Therefore, we rest in our Father’s love in the midst of Jerry’s death.
Jerry was a precious child of God. We shall miss him deeply. But we thank the Lord for the ongoing impact of His life. I want to share with you one story about Jerry that I hope will be an encouragement to you:
A few years ago, I spent hundreds of dollars and set aside a week to go visit Jerry in Colorado; I wanted him to disciple me. So after much planning, effort, and prayerful preparation, I finally arrived at his and Jane’s home with my Bible and a little notebook in hand.
Jerry and I sat down at his dining table and exchanged some basic chit chat. Then he said, “So, Chuck… what’s on your mind?” I asked one question to get things rolling.
Then, the very first thing he said to me was, “At the end of the day, all that matters is the glory of God.”
Upon that sentence, tears came to my eyes. And I felt like closing my little notebook, expressing thanks to him, and then hopping back on the plane to return to West Virginia.
For you see, that one sentence was all I needed to hear.
My friends, this sentence is still all we need to hear. May this one sentence be a substitute for this year’s Majesty of God Conference.
